Further Car Seat information and Terminology
Britax co-developed ISOFIX with VW in 1997 and has since become the international installation standard for fixing a child car seat into a vehicle without the use of seat belts. Isofix minimises installation errors and optimises protection through a rigid connection to the car seat chassis.
Since February 2006, all newly developed car models must be equipped with ISOFIX.
Britax introduced a technology called Pivot Link to enhance child safety in the car seat in the event of an accident. Pivot Link helps significantly redirect the forces on the child that occur in an accident.
The Pivot Link Connection is part of a bar within the car seat that rotates in the opposite direction at impact thus reducing the movement of the child and car seat. The Pivot link diverts the forces exerted on the car seat mainly downwards rather than forward. This means significant relief for the childs body and lowers the risk of head contact with the vehicle interior.
The foot Prop will stabilise and support the car seat via the vehicle floor - minimising the tilting and rotational movements of the car seat. As some modern cars have storage compartments in the foot well we advise you to visit the car seat compatability guides in the links below.
Side Impact Protection
25% of all car accidents are in the form of side on impacts or collisions so it is important to choose a car seat that provides optimum side impact protection. The car seat should provide full head containment and with the help of energy absorbing and soft, deeply padded side wings body protection also.
